Overview.
This training will review the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills modules…
- Mindfulness
- Distress Tolerance
- Emotion Regulation
- Interpersonal Effectiveness…
and then focus on how to apply DBT skills when treating clients with eating disorders.
We will discuss the eating disorder behaviors each set of skills addresses, and ways the teaching of DBT skills can enhance the treatment of eating disorders.
The training will provide clinicians with examples of specific skills in each module that are relevant to eating disorder therapy, and with tips for teaching these skills and facilitating skills use in the context of eating disorder symptoms. We will conclude by discussing situations in which specific DBT skills use may be contraindicated for clients with eating disorders.

Learning Objectives
Through attending this training, participants will be able to:
- Illustrate how DBT skills modules map broadly on to skills deficits that can maintain EDs
- Apply individual DBT skills to treat a variety of ED-related concerns
- Identify situations in which certain applications of DBT skills may be contraindicated for ED clients
