CEBTOhio is offering a DBT Skills Training Group to help individuals build skills and habits to identify, understand and effectively manage their emotions. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) breaks down these helpful skills into the following modules:
- Mindfulness
- Distress Tolerance
- Emotion Regulation
- Interpersonal Effectiveness
- Walking the Middle Path
Skills groups are formatted like a class, in which group leaders use a combination of lectures, discussions and practices to teach the skills. Individuals are assigned homework so they can practice their skills in the situations where they experience distress – whether at home, school or with friends.
Skills will help to:
- Reduce confusion about self-image and increase focus and awareness
- Reduce mood swings and address pervasive low moods
- Reduce impulsivity and increase tolerance of distress
- Reduce conflict in relationships and increase communication skills
- Reduce family conflict and increase flexible thinking
