Overview.

In this intermediate-level workshop and intended for clinicians already trained in DBT, participants will learn how to assess and treat eating disorders within the context of providing DBT. Through lecture, case examples, small group exercises and role plays, participants will have the opportunity to observe and practice case conceptualization and interventions for patients with complex eating disorders.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify gold standard evidence-based treatment models used to treat eating disorders and name the clinical indicators for choosing a specific modality
  • Understand the medical, psychological, and cognitive symptoms of eating disorders and how they inform case conceptualization and treatment interventions
  • Name core components of DBT theory and principles that inform treatment planning for patients with eating disorders
  • Set a DBT individual therapy agenda that includes the active assessment of eating disorder symptoms
  • Understand the essential role of behavioral and solution analysis in treating patients with eating disorders

Instructor Credentials

Anita Federici, PhD, CPsych, FAED, is a clinical psychologist and founder of The Centre for Psychology and Emotion Regulation, a private clinic in Ontario specializing in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders, personality disorders, and trauma. She is an expert therapist, teacher, researcher and consultant and is internationally known for her comprehensive team training and clinical consultation. Dr. Federici works extensively with hospitals and community organizations as a program developer and team consultant. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and invited book chapters. To date, she has provided more than 375 lectures and workshops on eating disorders, MED-DBT, and compassionate care for complex needs.

Lucene Wisniewski, PhD, FAED, is an internationally recognized leader in eating disorder treatment and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, with more than 25 years of experience. She has taught hundreds of workshops and seminars and has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and invited book chapters.  She has also provided consultation and training to eating disorder clinics around the globe. Dr. Wisniewski specializes in treating complex, co-morbid eating disorders, and in 2013 received the Outstanding Clinician Award from the Academy for Eating Disorders. She is the founder and Chief Clinical Officer of the Center for Evidence-Based Treatment Ohio, serving patients across the U.S., and Wisniewski Psychology Services, PLLC, in New York.
